This bench was constructed from found cedar gathered in Oregon forests. Cedar grows throughout the Pacific Northwest and has long been used in regional building traditions because of its resistance to weather and decay. I wanted the structure to remain close to that lineage of practical outdoor construction.

The form is built as a small shelter. Two angled cedar frames meet at a peak and create a narrow architectural opening that faces the woods beyond. Corrugated panels line the roof surfaces while the interior remains open, allowing light and wind to pass through the structure.

The seating surfaces and structural members were cut and assembled from reclaimed cedar boards. Natural irregularities in the wood were left visible so the material carries the memory of where it came from. The work functions as both sculpture and resting place, offering a moment of pause within the landscape.
